Student Trip to Beijing, Suzhou & Shanghai

Day 1

Place & Transport: Arrive in Beijing, TBA (Your arrangements)
Today’s Activities: Airport to Hotel Transfer (Beijing), Hutong Tour in Dongcheng District
Meals: Dinner

Hutong Tour in Dongcheng District (1 hour): Hutong was firstly built in Yuan Dynasty as local dwellings. It is a maze of historic alleyways with single-story traditional courtyard houses, which are fast disappearing. In this one hour tour, you will hop on a rickshaw to ride through the narrow alleys and visiting a local family. Here you will get a close touch with local culture and people’s life style.

Day 2

Place & Transport: Beijing
Today’s Activities: Visit Chinese All Company, National Stadium (Bird’s Nest), Water Cube, Summer Palace
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Visit Chinese All Company: Chinese All was founded by Tsinghua University in 2000. It’s the biggest digital publishing company in China. It’s a listed company since January 2015. They have singed more than 2,000 writers.

National Stadium (Bird’s Nest) (1 hour): Situated in Olympic Green Village, the National Museum was designed as the main stadium of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The main body is a colossal saddle-shaped elliptic steel structure and forms like a big nest which embraces and nurses human beings. Also it looks rather like a cradle bearing human beings’ hope of the future. Hence, it’s now known as “Bird’s Nest”.

Summer Palace (1.5 hours): Named as ‘Yiheyuan'(Garden of Nurtured Harmony) in Chinese, Summer Palace is the best preserved and the largest imperial gardens in China. With its perfect layout, magnificent buildings and enchanting landscape, the Summer Palace is also reputed as the most splendid classical garden in China. It has greatly influenced Chinese horticulture and landscaping. All the private owned gardens in eastern China have copied its design and layout.

Day 3

Place & Transport: Beijing
Today’s Activities: Mutianyu Great Wall(with round-way cable car), Temple of Heaven
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Mutianyu Great Wall(with round-way cable car) (2 hours): Located in Huairou County, this less-crowded section of the Great Wall is about 2.5 hours’ drive from downtown Beijing. A cable-car takes you up to a good section to avoid steep climb. From there, you can walk along the wall, through the watch towers and enjoy superb view as it winds 1.4 miles through lofty mountains and high ridges. Good walking shoes are highly recommended.

Temple of Heaven (1.5 hours): Built in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty, Temple of Heaven is a complex of Taoist buildings. Chinese emperors held the Heaven Worship Ceremony and prayed for good harvest here in Ming and Qing Dynasty. It is a public park now. Local residents spend lots of their spare time here to do exercise. Temple of Heaven was enrolled as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998.

Day 4

Today’s Activities: Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Hotel to Train station Transfer (Beijing), Train station to Hotel Transfer (Suzhou)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Forbidden City (2.5 hours): The Forbidden City was the imperial palace to 24 emperors in Ming and Qing Dynasty from 1402 to 1911. Listed in World Heritage Site in 1987, it is the largest and best-preserved ancient imperial architectural complex in the world. Featuring the great square, halls and gates contrast with intricate halls, gardens, courtyards and quarters. As a world famed attraction, it receives more than 6 million visitors every year.

Tiananmen Square (1 hour): As the world’s largest city square, Tiananmen Square has great cultural significance. Hundreds of Chinese visitors go to worship the flag-raising ceremony every morning as it is the symbol of China’s national pride. The square is surrounded by many imposing buildings including the Heavenly Gate (the entry to the Forbidden City), National Museums of China, People’s Great Hall and Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum.

Day 5

Place & Transport: Suzhou
Today’s Activities: Lion Forest Garden, Humble Administrator’s Garden, Tongli Water Town, Boat Ride in Tongli
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Lion Forest Garden (1 hour): Also known as The Kingdom of Rockeries, this is a very famous Yuan Dynasty rock garden. It has man-made mountains made of rocks surrounded by water and waterfalls. This garden offered some relief from the elements, as you are climbing in and out of the rocky outcrops and tunnels. The maze of rocks is truly spectacular—your children can playing and hiding from each other.

Humble Administrator’s Garden (2 hours): With a history of more than 500 years, and listed as one of the four most famous gardens in China, the Humble Administrator’s Garden is the biggest garden in Suzhou. Everything you ever imagined about a classic Chinese garden is all here in real life. Pavilions, corridors, paintings, calligraphies, poets and rockeries are the most important elements here.

Tongli Water Town (2 hours): Tongli Water Town has a history of more than 1000 years. It’s a less touristy ancient town about 30 minutes’ drive from Suzhou. With its stone bridges, well-preserved ancient architecture, private gardens, temples and museums, Tongli is sometimes called ‘Eastern Venice’. Taking a boat ride on the canal is the best way to discover the delights of this ancient town. You will find lots of local shops along the river, and see local people playing Chinese Chess on the bank. As the boat glides under the classic stone bridges, you will feel like you have gone back in time 1000 years to experience Ancient China.

Boat Ride in Tongli (30 minutes): Discover the water town with a boat ride is a peaceful way to travel in this ancient city.

Day 6  

Place & Transport: Suzhou to Shanghai
Today’s Activities: Our guide and driver will escort you from Suzhou to Shanghai, Shanghai VW Factory
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Shanghai VW Factory (1 hour): Shanghai VW, leader of top 500 foreign-invested enterprises in China, is marching in its way to higher development. The visit in Shanghai VW District is about 1 hour. Visitors can learn the 20 years’ developments of Shanghai VW by watching the video, see automobiles exhibited in the hall, and visit the automatic product line controlled by Robot.

Day 7

Place & Transport: Shanghai
Today’s Activities: Yu Garden, Jade Buddha Temple, The Bund
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Yu Garden (1 hour): Built in 1559, Yu Garden is a masterpiece of classic Chinese gardens. As a private garden in Ming Dynasty, it represented the advanced architectural style about 450 years ago. Delightful ponds, fishes, pavilions, trees, corridors, rockeries, and paintings on the wall are all things which you might have expected to see if you could have visited Ancient China. Here you find all of them in this classic garden.

Jade Buddha Temple (1 hour): In 1882, an old temple was built to keep two jade Buddha statues which had been brought from Burma by a monk named Huigen.
The jade Buddha Temple has two Jade buddha statues. The two precious jade Buddha statues are not only rare cultural relics but also porcelain artworks. Both the Sitting Buddha and the Recumbent Buddha are carved with whole white jade. The sparkling and crystal-clear white jade gives the Buddhas the beauty of sanctity and make them more vivid.

The Bund (30 minutes): As a walkway along the Huangpu River and the best place to see the skyscrapers in Pudong and historical buildings in Puxi, the Bund has become a must see in Shanghai. The tunnel under Huangpu River is the connection between old and new Shanghai.

Day 8
